About the Asian Historical Economics Society

The Asian Historical Economics Society (AHES) was founded in 2010 to promote research and training in Asian and global economic history. The Society is based in Japan, and its aims are stated as: "promoting the spread of Asian and global economic history and academic research presentations related thereto, as well as encouraging friendship and cooperation among researchers".

The Society brings together scholars from leading research institutions both within and outside Asia to promote pan-Asian research and cooperation in economic history, within the context of fostering a close relationship between Asian and global economic history. Building on earlier Asian Historical Economics Conferences held in Tokyo and Venice, the Society was formally established during the Beijing conference in 2010, with the aim of running a conference every 2 years. As well as bringing together established scholars, an important aim of the conference is to provide support for PhD students and other new researchers. The 2016 conference will be held in Seoul.
